SAW: Special Edition

Aside from 13 year olds at a movie theater, one thing that annoys the living hell out of me, is double dipping for DVD’s. I mean really, would it take such an effort to release a quality first release? Oh that’s right, it would take a little effort. Well for all you suckers who dug deep in you lint-filled pockets to scramble up some change for the previously released DVD of Saw (see Arrow’s review right here), prepare to dig deep again. Bloody-Disgusting was on the set of Saw 2 when they got the scoop on an upcoming October DVD release of a Saw: Special Edition. The DVD

will contain not only the director’s cut but will very likely contain the actual short Director James Wan and writer/star Leigh Whannell made, which got Saw green lit years ago. It’s early news so no extras have been announced yet, but as soon as they are, I’ll slap them up here for your viewing plea sure…

Don’t look now but I think Danny Glover is about ready to take out his frustrations of DVD Duple Dip ping…

SIN CITY

Keeping on the double dipping theme, but this time it’s a little different. How about buying a DVD knowing that there will be another better edition coming out soon. Such is the case with the most kick-ass film of 2005 so far, Sin City (see Arrow’s review here). Buena Vista Home Entertainment has announced a barebones release of the Robert Rodriguez blockbuster.

The film, based on a series of graphic novels created by Frank Miller, will be available to own from the 16th August this year. So how do you treat one of the coolest flicks in recent years? With

1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen along with both English DTS 5.1 and Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround tracks. Yea, that’s it…Be prepared to fork over some more dough later in the year or early next year around sequel time…

Even little good-girl Britney Murphy got pissed off when she learned of the pathetic DVD release of Sin City. Let’s hope Mickey Rourke didn’t find out about it…

URBAN LEGENDS: Bloody Mary

Okay, I know it’s a teeny bopper movie franchise but still, I found the first two enjoyable nonetheless. I mean, they weren’t works of art by far but they we’re entertaining and to see famous folk tales on the big screen is always welcoming. The third installment looks promising however, with the director of Pet Sematary (Mary Lambert) at the helm of the flick. Urban Legends: Bloody Mary is set for a street release date of July 19th. The story goes something like this: three high-school girls mysteriously disappearing on homecoming night, only to reappear the next day with no memory of what happened. Soon, those responsible for this “prank” start getting murdered in the manner of urban legends, and one of the girls and her brother try to solve the mystery.

The movie is presented on the disc in anamorphic 1.85:1 widescreen with Dolby Digital 5.1 audio, and is accompanied by a making-of featurette and bonus previews…

Pics look good, but don’t they always…It should also be noted that Sony will release an URBAN LEGENDS DVD 3-PACK containing all three films in the series on the same day. I’ll have the scoop on that when more information is available! Until then, pre-order Urban Legends: Bloody Mary here.

DANGER! 50,000 VOLTS!

The lovable and hilarious Nick Frost from Shaun of the Dead stars in this eight-episode British series that follows a team of “experts” as they satirically instruct on how to survive bat-wielding maniacs, nuclear armageddon, a bear attack and more. Talk about early news, Revelations hasn’t even finished it’s initial TV run yet and it’s already been announced for a DVD release and the cover art has been released as well. The two disc set will feature the following.

THEY CAME BACK

No not the Backstreet Boys, the title of the french film that Wellspring Media is releasing on June 21st. The film is said to be taking a

cerebral approach to the zombie subgenre.

They Came Back is set in a small French city whose residents are confronted by hordes of the reawakened dead suddenly walking the streets. The movie has played the Toronto and Venice Film Festivals and New York City’s New Directors/New Films series to rave reviews.
