DVD Buzz-Saw #11

CURSED: Unrated

Dimension has released the highly anticipated cover art (sarcasm) for it’s box office smash (more sarcasm) Cursed (see Arrow’s not so positive review). My thoughts on it are the same thoughts I had about the movie…dull…plain and just bad. Although the Unrated Version (shown) is slightly better with it’s blinding red glamour…Hopefully the unrated version can prove to be more than slightly better. Speaking of that version, here’s what’s all being packed with it…

Includes:

  • Anamorphic wide screen presentation
  • Dolby Digital 5.1
  • Audio Commentary with Wes Craven (This will be good)
  • Behind the Fangs Featurette
  • The Cursed Effects
  • Becoming a werewolf” featurette focusing on Rick Baker
  • Theatrical trailers

As you see here, the cast of Cursed was just as surprised to see Wes Craven’s career take a nose dive into the bottomless pits of horror hell. However, he did say that this isn’t the movie he made, and now that movie is available on DVD. So pre-order it now and see if Mr. Craven is on the come-back trail. Ya Dig?

HIDE AND SEEK

Updating you on last week’s news about the Hide and Seek DVD (check the review here, of course) Fox Home Video has now released the very generic cover art that will be accompanying the DVD. Here’s a run down the specs if you missed them last week!

Includes:

  • Anamorphic 2:35:1 wide screen presentation
  • Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS Surround
  • Four seamlessly branched alternate endings with optional audio commentary by director John Polson, screenwriter Ari Schlossberg and editor Jeffrey Ward
  • 14 deleted/extended scenes with optional commentary by Polson, Schlossberg and Ward
  • Three pre-visualization sequences (“Charlie Chases Emily,” “Katherine Confronts Charlie,” “Final Moments between David and Emily”)
  • A 10-minute making-of featurette

What the author of that wonderful graffiti is referring to of course, is the link to pre-order Hide and Seek, which is right here! Can you see now?

MAN-THING

Lion’s Gate got their hands on the comic book adaptation of The Man-Thing. The film was originally set for a theatrical release, then later set for a limited release, then later made for TV special event that premiers on the SciFi channel on April 30th. If you catch the flick and like it you can then head over to Amazon.com and pre-order the DVD which comes with Widescreen presentation and Dolby Digital Audio. No extras have been confirmed and I wouldn’t expect much if any. Should be interesting to see if the film is actually any good at all. Check the DVD on June 14th, 2005 to see for your self…

One of my favorite comic books while growing up was Man-Thing. Let’s hope that they didn’t mess it up too bad. Pre-order the DVD to see if indeed they salvaged some of the comic book’s greatness

THE ENTITY

Several weeks ago, I broke the news about the DVD release for The Entity (see Arrow’s review here). Everyone’s favorite phantom-rape film is coming to DVD May 3rd and they have now released the cover for the very underrated flick. Looks more like the cover for a book if you ask me but hey, the flick is a hoot…in a sadistic and crude sort of way. Especially since Barbara Hershey tried to deny ever stepping foot on the set as her pre-madonna outlook is too good for horror films now-a-days. She sure didn’t mind cashing that Phantom paycheck now did she…Anyway, enough blabbing..here’s the extras…

Includes:

  • 2:40:1 Anamorphic wide screen presentation
  • Available subtitles: English
  • Available Audio Tracks: English (Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround)
  • The Entity Files – All-New documentary about the true-life “Entity” case
  • Theatrical Trailer
  • Poster and Still Gallery

Okay, so if you liked the film when it came out, or want to see it for the first time, or hell, if you just want to piss off Barbara Hershey. Click here to pre-order 234 copies for you and all of your friends to watch over and over again.

FREAKED: 2-Disc Special Edition

One of the all-time great “Horror-Comedy/ Dark Comedy/ Horredy/Comor/who gives a shit, it’s a fun ass time” movies is coming to DVD. I’m referring to Freaked, of course which makes it way to DVD on July 12th courtesy of Anchor Bay Entertainment. The DVD is set to be a 2-Disc Special Edition that’s loaded with tons of features. Before I go to the extras in the film, I will address the stupid looking cover for the film entitled Kenny & Co. The film is an early comedy filmed by Don Coscarelli prior to his Phantasm days. That DVD will be available on June 14th and you can check out more on it here. Without further hesitation, here’s the extras that are jam-packed with The Special Edition DVD…

Includes:

  • 1.85:1, 16×9-enhanced widescreen
  • Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround audio
  • Audio commentary by Winter and Stern
  • A conversation with co-writer Tim Burns
  • Deleted scenes
  • Hijinx in Freekland , a collection of behind-the-scenes footage
  • FREAKED art gallery
  • Theatrical trailer
  • DVD-ROM original screenplay

But wait, that’s just Disc One…here’s whats on Disc Two:

  • FREAKED: The Reehersel Version , a full-length cast rehearsal of the film, including Keanu Reeves sans Dog Boy makeup, with scenes and dialogue that never made it into the final film
  • There Are No Weirdos Here , early script readings of selected scenes, featuring actors Winter, Megan Ward, Michael Stoyanov, Derek McGrath, Lee Arenberg and John Hawkes
  • It’s the Troll , terrifying footage of young actor Alex Zuckerman developing the character of Stuey Gluck
  • Under Construkshen , behind-the-scenes video showing the creation of the Freek Land set
  • Behold…The Beast Boy , footage of Winter’s makeup transformation into a hideous mutant freek
  • Two short films by Winter and Stern, SQUEAL OF DEATH and THE NYU SIGHT AND SOUND PROJECT
  • The set will also come with a “freekish” booklet containing liner notes and photos.

Get your freak on (I had to do it) and pre-order the DVD right now.
