After working on MUTE for over a decade, Duncan Jones is finally set to kick off production on his long-awaited sci-fi flick next week. With WARCRAFT behind him, the director is ready to return to the world of smaller sci-fi projects like MOON and SOURCE CODE, and he even told Collider several months ago that MUTE was actually meant to be his first film before he realized that it was "just a little too ambitious in scale back then." Jones announced the news on Twitter as well as re-sharing a piece of MUTE concept art.

Jones also added that MUTE will be related to MOON, although he didn't specify in what way. Cue the theorizing. Starring Paul Rudd and Alexander Skarsgard, MUTE will be set in Berlin, forty years from today, where East crashes against West in a "science-fiction Casablanca."

Leo Beiler (Skarsgard), a mute bartender has one reason and one reason only for living here, and she’s disappeared. But when Leo’s search takes him deeper into the city’s underbelly, an odd pair of American surgeons (led by Rudd) seem to be the only recurring clue, and Leo can’t tell if they can help, or who he should fear most.

The always wonderful Sam Rockwell will also make an appearance in MUTE and now that we know the story will have connections with MOON, is it possible that he could be reprising his role of Sam Bell? If you've yet to watch MOON, I would definitely recommend it and would even suggest that you go in with as little knowledge about the plot as possible.
