Update: Drew Goddard writing Deadpool 2 script; Joe Carnahan penning X-Force

UPDATE: Ryan Reynolds has taken to Twitter to clarify that Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are still writing the screenplay to the DEADPOOL sequel and a big part of the process. See his Tweet below.

The X-MEN franchise is quickly expanding beyond the core movies and Twentieth Century Fox has plenty of X-MEN projects in development, including a sequel to DEADPOOL and X-FORCE. After the surprising success of DEADPOOL, a sequel was quickly greenlit, but sadly the road ahead may not prove to be any easier than it was the first time. DEADPOOL screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have been attempting to tackle the script for the sequel over the past few months, but now there may be someone new putting words in Deadpool's mouth.

Collider claims that Drew Goddard (CABIN IN THE WOODS) has reportedly taken over scripting duties on the DEADPOOL 2 script, and, has apparently been working closely with Ryan Reynolds to "create something everyone is excited to make." Collider isn't sure how far along Reese and Wernick were with the DEADPOOL 2 script, but it seems like some fresh eyes were needed.

Additionaly, Collider also believes that Joe Carnahan will be penning X-FORCE. Carnahan already has plenty of big projects on his slate, including directing and writing the next BAD BOYS, scripting Shawn Levy's UNCHARTED adaptation as well as writing and directing a remake of THE RAID. That's certainly one busy dude. Collider added that Carnahan is only writing the X-FORCE script at this time and isn't attached to direct. Once he figures out how to function without sleep, I can imagine him taking on directing duties as well. Jeff Wadlow (KICK-ASS 2) was previously attached to write and direct X-FORCE several years ago, with X-Force co-creator Rob Liefeld calling the script he read "beyond impressive," but it looks as though Carnahan will be starting from scratch. Anything can change, so keep this in mind until we hear something official.
