Drew Barrymore might be taking a page from her good friend Cameron Diaz's handbook. The actress revealed during a chat with Andy Cohen on Sirius XM's "Andy Cohen Live" that doesn't want to return to acting anytime soon.
Barrymore was discussing her latest venture, hosting The Drew Barrymore Show on CBS, and Cohen asked her if she would consider making more movies in the future and she was pretty quick and definitive with her answer:
"If I’m being honest, the answer is no, I don’t want to be on a film set right now, but that could change when my kids are older. I stopped doing these when my kids were born because I've done it since I was in diapers. At 11-months-old is when I started… It was a no-brainer to me to put making movies on a back burner so that I could be present and raise my kids myself. I didn’t want to be on a film set asking the nanny how the kids were."
Drew Barrymore was born into a dynasty of highly-regarded entertainers and has been acting since she was a child. The actress made her big-screen debut at five-years-old in the 1980 science-fiction film Altered States and two years later she appeared in a small independent film directed by Steven Spielberg called E.T.: The Extraterrestrial. Perhaps you've heard of it. All joking aside, the film catapulted her to another level at a very early age and that came with some bumps along the road. Barrymore has been very candid about her issues growing up, particularly with substance abuse, but she eventually came out on the other side of it. By the time her career entered the mid-90s, Barrymore began to appear in a string of successful films and that success continued rather consistently over the years. At the end of the day, she truly became a Hollywood success story, despite the obstacles that were thrown her way.
It makes sense that she would want to be present for her kids because she has mentioned in the past how unconventional her childhood was. She seems pretty invested in giving her kids a more stable upbringing and that simply can't be done while pulling long hours on a film set. Her current gig as a talk show host is much more flexible and it gives her the time she needs to really be a mom. Barrymore does seem open to diving back into acting for the right project as she mentioned her last significant role on Netflix's Santa Clarita Diet, which lasted three seasons, came at the exact right time. I have a feeling when Barrymore is ready for an acting comeback, Hollywood will take her back with wide-open arms.
