It may not be the sequel fans have been begging for but it’s better than nothing, I suppose. The Wrap just got the word on a new seven part DREDD miniseries that producer Adi Shankar has been hard at work on for the last two years as it will center on the Dark Judges. You can think of this as a huge “thank you” to the fans who have continued to support the cult film. Nice!
The miniseries will be released online this month for free. The new DREDD project will fit comfortably within Shankar’s popular Bootleg Universe, which includes the short “Punisher: Dirty Laundry” starring Thomas Jane and Ron Perlman, as well as “Venom: Truth in Journalism,” which starred Ryan Kwanten as Spider-Man villain Eddie Brock.
There’s no word on whether or not we’ll be seeing Karl Urban or Olivia Thirlby make an appearance, but seeing as how passionate they are about getting a sequel off the ground I wouldn’t be surprised if they showed up in some form or another. And who knows, maybe if the miniseries is popular enough, it’ll be the all important push the DREDD sequel needs to get rolling.
