Netflix has a lot coming in the way of original show content and they certainly show no signs of slowing down in the foreseeable future. Next up on the docket is a partnership with DreamWorks Animation which will yield a brand-new Voltron show, as well as completely original show from the mind of Guillermo del Toro entitled Trollhunters. Not much is known about either show except that Voltron will be “completely re-imagined”, and that Trollhunters will explore a “new, fantastical world wrapped around two best friends who make a startling discovery beneath their hometown.”
Of course, this also means you can expect Netflix to stream current DreamWorks Animation shows such as The Adventures of Puss in Boots, Dinotrux, and Dragons: Race to the Edge, as well as some of their feature films. As it stands, Netflix certainly has a good handle on its mature audience, and now it seems as if they’re really looking to capture the younger ones too. Sounds fine by me, although one wonders if Netflix will eventually pull back on purchasing streaming rights for other films and TV shows if it proves too costly for them. It’s probably too early for that discussion, but I’m sure Netflix will be a much different beast in 5 years’ time. I guess we’ll have to wait and find out!
