S. Craig Zahler has been making a name for himself over the last few years with incredibly enjoyable and impeccably well-made genre movies like BONE TOMAHAWK and BRAWL IN CELL BLOCK 99, the latter of which was named the best movie of the year (2017) by JoBlo. Now Zahler is back with DRAGGED ACROSS CONCRETE, a crime thriller starring Mel Gibson and Vince Vaughn as two detectives who dive into the criminal underworld when they’re suspended from the force. The first trailer is here and teases a mixture of genre thrills and the occasional laugh, with Gibson and Vaughn as the police partnership that would’ve sounded absurd a decade ago, but is now a perfect ingredient for what could be a standout movie of 2019.

Of his movies, DRAGGED ACROSS CONCRETE has the most aggressive title but seems to be the lightest of his movies. BONE TOMAHAWK meshed horror tendencies with the Western genre and BRAWL was a brutal, bloody masterwork – and both made for squeamish viewing. CONCRETE seems like it will have its share of violence and heavy moments, but it also comes off as his most accessible effort, and one that is hopefully no less excellent.
The film also stars Jennifer Carpenter (DEXTER), Don Johnson (MIAMI VICE, DJANGO UNCHAINED), Tory Kittles (TRUE DETECTIVE), Thomas Kretschmann (AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON) and Michael Jai White (THE DARK KNIGHT, BLACK DYNAMITE).
