Downton Abbey: A New Era teaser takes the Crawley family to the French Riviera

Fans of Downton Abbey were surprised by a delightful treat this morning as Focus Features released a teaser trailer and key art for Downton Abbey: A New Era. The film serves as a sequel to 2019’s Downton Abbey which became a hit with older audiences and fans of the popular series.

The sequel takes the Crawley family to the French Riviera and brings back the regular cast which includes Hugh Bonneville, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, Brendan Coyle, Michelle Dockery, Kevin Doyle, Joanne Froggatt, Harry Hadden-Paton, Robert James-Collier, Allen Leech, Phyllis Logan, Elizabeth McGovern, Sophie McShera, Tuppence Middleton, Lesley Nicol, Maggie Smith, Imelda Staunton, Penelope Wilton, and new cast members Hugh Dancy, Laura Haddock, Nathalie Baye, Dominic West, and Jonathan Zaccaï. In addition to the original principal cast, the newcomers include Hugh Dancy, Laura Haddock, Nathalie Baye, Dominic West, and Jonathan Zaccaï. The sequel appears to follow Maggie Smith’s Violet Crawley as she reveals that she has a mysterious past and has inherited a villa on the French Riviera.

Downton Abbey proved to be a sizable hit when it was released back in 2019. Made for $13 million, Downton Abbey grossed $97 million domestically and $194.2 million worldwide. The series, original film, and this sequel were written by Julian Fellowes and while Michael Engler helmed the first film, he has been replaced by Simon Curtis for the follow-up.
