The SPLINTER CELL adaptation has finally found a director.
Doug Liman is in final talks to helm the video game flick for Ubisoft and New Regency. Tom Hardy has been attached to star since 2012. The film has been slowly coming along after being passed through Dreamworks and Paramount. Peter Berg was on at one point to helm until he moved on to other things.
SPLINTER CELL is a single player stealth game based on the novels of Tom Clancy. The story centers on
Sam Fisher, a spy for a secret government organization called Third Echelon which fights terrorists. Actor Michael Ironside voiced the character throughout five games until 2013 when Eric Johnson replaced him.
Liman is a nice choice for a flick like this. He’s been doing steady work in the action genre since 2002s THE BOURNE IDENTITY. Next up for the director is the release of sci-fi-action flick EDGE OF TOMORROW starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt.
Eric Singer (AMERICAN HUSTLE, THE INTERNATIONAL) penned the script.
