EDGE OF TOMORROW director Doug Liman has already added another project to his ever-growing resume. He is now in talks to helm a remake of the 1981 film VICTORY for Warner Bros. John Huston directed the original, which starred Sylvester Stallone, Michael Caine, and soccer sensation Pelé in a ridiculous premise that basically blended THE GREAT ESCAPE and ROCKY during WWII.

As allied POWs prepare for a soccer game against the German National Team to be played in Nazi-occupied Paris, the French Resistance and British officers are making plans for the team's escape.
I’ve seen VICTORY and it’s actually a pretty entertaining movie; I may be biased because of my admiration for Stallone, but it’s a real manly movie what can I say? I know Americans love a good sports movie, if the sport in question is baseball or football. While this is great timing for the announcement consider the World Cup is hot and happening, I don't know if this will have the appeal they're hoping for. Take a film like INVICTUS (not the same sport but humor me), the flick just made $37.7 million in North America with Clint Eastwood directing and Matt Damon starring in a true feel-good story. I trust the VICTORY remake is going to need some serious star power to kick this one off. See what I did?
