Well, it looks as if GAMBIT's troubled production continues as Doug Liman (THE EDGE OF TOMORROW, MR. AND MRS. SMITH) has left that film to go direct another comic book property, JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK. The name may sound familiar as Guillermo del Toro was attached to direct at one point in time (and is now listed as a producer). The story groups together some of DC's shadier heroes, such as John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Deadman, Shade the Changing Man, and Zatanna, among others. Liman has several announced projects in the works so there's no telling when he would take the time to tackle JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK.
You’d think the lack of popularity of these characters with the general movie-going public would make JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK a bit of a tough sell, but that didn’t stop crowds from flocking to SUICIDE SQUAD. At least, during it’s opening weekend. Admittedly, I was more excited when monster guru del Toro was attached to direct, but Liman knows how to deliver the action goods. Given the director's recent penchant for working with Tom Cruise, one might wonder if he would try to bring him into the mix. Time will tell! In meantime, let's see who's next on the chopping block for GAMBIT!
