Paging Disney+, we need a full trailer for Doogie Kamealoha, M.D. stat! Prep the operating table, scrub up and get ready for a medical drama with heart.

But wait, how did Peyton Elizabeth Lee’s Lahela Kamealoha earn the name Doogie? Well, it’s as simple as she reminds everyone of Neil Patrick Harris’ character from the original series. Sometimes, the super meta answer is the best one. To be fair, I think it’s kind of cool that the Doogie Howser show exists in Lahela’s real life. Maybe Harris will guest star in a future episode. That would be sweet for so many wall-breaking reasons.

Set in modern-day Hawaii, the reboot follows Lahela “Doogie” Kameāloha (Lee), a mixed-race 16-year-old girl, juggling a budding medical career and life as a teenager. Guiding Lahela (and also complicating things) is her family, including her spitfire Irish mother (Kathleen Rose Perkins) who’s also her supervisor at the hospital, and her “Local Boy” father (Jason Scott Lee) who struggles to accept that his daughter is no longer his little girl.

Disney+ releases a full trailer for Doogie Kamealoha, M.D.

The first season consists of 10 episodes, which will invite viewers into Lahela’s chaotic life of ups and downs as a teenage doctor. As you can see from the trailer, there’s a lot of pressure being heaped onto Lahela as she navigates the halls of her local hospital. Here’s the thing though, she’s still a kid. She has her own desires, dreams, and aspirations. This is in addition to being everything to everyone at all times. It’s enough to drive you crazy. Obviously, this genius still has a lot to learn, and we’re all invited to join her on her journey of discovery.

The series also stars Matthew Sato, Wes Tian, Emma Meisel, Mapuana Makia, and Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman.

I have to admit that I’m curious about Doogie Kamealoha, M.D., even if it’s aimed at younger audiences. I grew up with the original show and might have to give this one a shot for nostalgia’s sake. How about you? Does Doogie Kamealoha, M.D. look like it’s something the doctor ordered, or will you fake sick for this one? Let us know in the comments section below.
