Amblin Partners (which counts Steven Spielberg among its founders) has acquired the "female-driven thriller" spec script THE WHITE ROOM and have put the project on the fast track to production.
Written by Bryce McGuire, THE WHITE ROOM is being described as "DON'T BREATHE meets HEREDITARY" and is said to have a "strong role for a mature actress". Set over the course of one night in the offseason of the remote Adirondack Mountains, the story begins
when a mysterious young woman goes missing and it is up to a hardened local widow to find out the truth behind the disappearance, which may have been caused by something inhuman.
I'm definitely on board to see how that situation plays out.
McGuire has recently been working with Amblin on a feature expansion of director Julian Terry's short film WHISPER, which he is writing for Terry to direct. McGuire is also working with James Wan's company Atomic Monster on a feature expansion of the short film NIGHT SWIM, which he wrote and co-directed with Rod Blackhurst.
Blackhurst will be directing THE WHITE ROOM and is expected to start casting the film soon.
Evan Hayes, Alex Heineman, and Andrew Rona of The Picture Company will be producing the film alongside Noah Lang, with ACE Content's Justin Barocas executive producing. Holly Bario and Andrew Calof will be overseeing the project for Amblin.
