Hollywood studios remake foreign films so often, it's only fair that studios in other countries should also remake American films. One such remake currently in development in India is a Tamil-language version of this year's DON'T BREATHE, which was directed by Fede Alvarez and produced by Sam Raimi.
Alvarez himself has confirmed that this remake is in the works and said that he finds the idea of it "exciting" – and being the guy who remade EVIL DEAD, he knows a thing or two about such endeavors.
Funded by K. E. Gnanavel Raja of Studio Green, the new(er) DON'T BREATHE may soon be filming in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
Anand Shankar has some ideas for the screenplay and is expected to be the film's director, reuniting with actor Chiyaan Vikram (pictured) after they worked together on the recently released film IRU MUGAN. Vikram will be playing the remake's version of The Blind Man and is going through a "physical transformation" for the role, looking to lose weight to achieve a lean, fit, and strong physique.
Alvarez's DON'T BREATHE told the following story:
Three teens who get away with perfectly planned home robberies have set their sights on one last payout that will get them out of crime forever. Their target: a reclusive blind man with millions of dollars in hiding. But as soon as they break into his home, the tables are turned and they find themselves trapped and fighting for survival against a psychopath with secrets of his own.
It is said that this take on the material would tweak the story "to suit the sensibilities of the Tamil audience".
