Don’t Breathe 2 VOD release date is this Friday!

Don’t Breathe 2, director Rodo Sayagues’ sequel to the 2016 hit horror thriller Don’t Breathe (watch it HERE), only just reached theatres on August 13th, but theatrical windows aren’t what they used to be. Sony just made the surprise announcement on social media that they will be giving Don’t Breathe 2 a VOD release starting tomorrow, September 3rd! Which is a smart move, as COVID-19 and its variants continue to wreak havoc and scare people away from theatres. I haven’t seen Don’t Breathe 2 yet myself because I haven’t gone to a theatre since the pandemic began, so I’m glad to hear I’ll have a different way to watch it this weekend.

During its three week theatrical run, Don’t Breathe 2 has earned about $36 million at the global box office.

I don’t really feel like I’ve been missing much by not going out to see this movie. I never had high hopes for it after learning what the story would be, and JoBlo’s own Gaius Bolling wasn’t exactly blown away by it. You can read his 5/10 review at THIS LINK.

Sayagues wrote Don’t Breathe and Don’t Breathe 2 with Fede Alvarez. Alvarez directed the first film, but passed the directing duties on the sequel over to Sayagues. The story they crafted for the sequel is set

several years after the home invasion of the first movie, with the Blind Man living in quiet solace… until his past sins catch up to him.

The Blind Man has been hiding out for years in an isolated cabin and has taken in and raised a young girl orphaned from a house fire. Their quiet existence is shattered when a group of kidnappers show up and take the girl, forcing the Blind Man to leave his safe haven to save her.

Stephen Lang reprises the role of the Blind Man and is joined in the cast by Brendan Sexton III, Adam Young, Bobby Schofield, Rocci Williams, and Madelyn Grace.

Sayagues and Alvarez also produced Don’t Breathe 2 with Rob Tapert and genre icon Sam Raimi.
