Don’t Breathe 2: Long-awaited sequel scheduled for summer 2021

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

At the start of the year, we heard that Fede Alvarez's DON'T BREATHE (watch it HERE) co-writer Rodo Sayagues would be making his directorial debut with the long-awaited sequel DON'T BREATHE 2, which was supposed to start filming in April. Due to the pandemic, it didn't make that April start date – but it did manage to go into production, and nobody knew about it until star Stephen Lang announced that his work on the sequel was complete two weeks ago.

Now that we know DON'T BREATHE 2 has been filmed, Sony / Screen Gems has gone ahead and given it a release date. It's set to reach theatres on August 13, 2021. August is the same month the first film was released in back in 2016.

Written by Alvarez and Sayagues, the sequel is

set several years after the home invasion of the first movie, with the Blind Man living in quiet solace… until his past sins catch up to him.

Here's a bit more information:

The Blind Man has been hiding out for years in an isolated cabin and has taken in and raised a young girl orphaned from a house fire. Their quiet existence is shattered when a group of kidnappers show up and take the girl, forcing the Blind Man to leave his safe haven to save her.

I'm not into the idea that DON'T BREATHE 2 might make the Blind Man look like a heroic character, I hated him so much in the first movie. Whatever happens in this one, producer Sam Raimi has said that the story Alvarez and Sayagues came up with is "only the greatest idea for a sequel I've ever heard."
