Donald Glover is the latest to join the cast of Spider-Man: Homecoming

SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING is announcing actors left and right, and this latest actor was actually a people's choice to play the titular hero, before actually voicing Miles Morales on the Ultimate Spider-Man TV show. I'm talking about writer/comedian Donald Glover. The Community star is not only a solid actor, but can pull off the quirky sensibilities that some people felt would suit Spider-Man just fine. So who is he playing in HOMECOMING? That's up in the air right now, but given the age of the lead, I'd wager a teacher in Parker's school. Glover joins the likes of Tom Holland, Marisa Tomei, Robert Downey Jr., Tony Revolori, Zendaya and Michael Barbieri, among others.

While I haven't had a chance to check out Community, I have enjoyed Glover in films like THE MARTIAN and MAGIC MIKE XXL. The man is obviously super talented, having written for the show 30 Rock when he was barely out of his 20s. I don't know how sizable his role will be, or if he'll have any connection to Miles Morales, but the cast is certainly better off with Glover!

SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING will hit theaters on July 7, 2017.
