We are only a few months away from the release of Don Mancini's new Chucky flick CULT OF CHUCKY and I'm getting more and more excited by the day. The film looks awesome and Mancini calling the new film a "Chucky mind-f*ck movie" has me hooked in big time.
But what about the future of the series past this upcoming seventh installment?
Mancini teased on the CURSE OF CHUCKY commentary that after CURSE he would go with either Chucky on a Train or Chucky in a Mental Institution, and as we all know, we're now getting Chucky Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (which that original film starred a young Brad Dourif FYI) then maybe the Chucky on a Train idea will be next up.
But what about CHUCKY IN SPACE?
Leprechaun has gone to space. Jason has gone to space. Hell, even Pinhead has gone to space. So why not Chucky, right? Turns out WRONG TURN 2 director Joe Lynch feels the same way and recently when Mancini was a guest on Lynch's podcast THE MOVIE CRYPT, he let slip his an idea for sending Chucky into the stars.
Joe Lynch:
I'm expecting Chucky in Space.
Don Mancini:
I have an idea for Chucky in Space.
Joe Lynch:
YEEESSS!
Don Mancini:
You know how sometimes, like, kids will present a space shuttle crew with some, like, totemic experiment or mascot or whatever, Chucky…
Joe Lynch:
Capsule of Chucky!
While Mancini didn't quite finish the thought before Adam Green jumped in, you get where he was going with this. And while I'm sure the man is joking (??) at this point I wouldn't be upset by Chucky in Space. Sure, I think there are MUCH more interesting place to send him first – or more specific – times of year to let him slay through (thinking Christmas and Halloween, for starters) but space could be fun. Why not?
What do you think of CHUCKY IN SPACE and/or where would you like to see Chucky kill in the 8th film of the franchise? Let us know what you think on Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram!
CULT OF CHUCKY synopsis:
Confined to an asylum for the criminally insane for the past four years, Nica Pierce (Fiona Dourif) is erroneously convinced that she, not Chucky, murdered her entire family. But when her psychiatrist introduces a new therapeutic "tool" to facilitate his patients' group sessions – an all-too-familiar "Good Guy" doll with an innocently smiling face – a string of grisly deaths begins to plague the asylum, and Nica starts to wonder if maybe she isn't crazy after all. Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent), Chucky's now-grown-up nemesis from the original Child's Play, races to Nica's aid. But to save her he'll have to get past Tiffany (Oscar-nominee Jennifer Tilly), Chucky's long-ago bride, who will do anything, no matter how deadly or depraved, to help her beloved devil doll.
CULT OF CHUCKY is written and directed by Don Mancini and stars Jennifer Tilly, Fiona Dourif, Alex Vincent, Grace Lynn Kung, Michael Therriault, Zak Santiago, Summer H. Howell, and, of course, Brad Dourif as the voice of Chucky!
CULT OF CHUCKY is set to hit October 3rd!
