Warner Bros. is gearing up for a reboot of the 1996 Arnold Schwarzenegger action film, Eraser, and now the studio has revealed who will lead the project along with other members of the cast.
Dominic Sherwood, who starred in Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments and Penny Dreadful: City of Angels, will be the Eraser reboot star — leading Eraser: Reborn — which was shot under the radar over the summer. The rest of the cast includes Jacky Lai, McKinley Belcher III, and Eddie Ramos. The reboot follows US Marshall Mason Pollard (Sherwood) who specializes in engineering the fake deaths of witnesses that need to leave no trace of their existence.
From the sound of it, the film is likely to be a Warner Bros. Home Entertainment release and will not be a theatrical reboot. Deadline reports that HBO Max is also off the table so Eraser: Reborn will likely make its debut via PVOD and Blu-Ray. Other release windows will be determined but the first window is home entertainment. The film, which is now in post-production, will likely release in the spring of 2022.
Arnold Schwarzenegger headlined the 1996 film which saw him starring as a witness protection specialist who becomes suspicious of his co-workers when dealing with a case involving high-tech weapons. The film became a global hit, grossing $240 million on an estimated $100 million budget, and it scored an Academy Award nomination for Best Sound Effects. The movie also starred Vanessa Williams, James Caan, and James Coburn.
