After four seasons of breaking out (and in) of a variety of locations, the adventures of Michael (Wentworth Miller), Lincoln (Dominic Purcell), Sara (Sarah Wayne Callies), and the rest came to an end in 2009, but, after rumblings of a revival, the series returned earlier this year for nine-episodes. Fan reaction was mixed and unfortunately the revival wasn't exactly a ratings juggernaut, but the possibility of a sixth season of Prison Break isn't completely far-fetched. In fact, Dominic Purcell took to Instagram and claimed that another season Prison Break is in the works.
A representative for Twentieth Century Fox told Entertainment Weekly that there are no updates on Prison Break at this time, meaning that either a deal for a sixth season hasn't been finalized, or perhaps Dominic Purcell is attempting to ignite some interest all by himself. When Prison Break returned earlier this year, Wentworth Miller said that he wouldn't rule out another season, adding "I feel like there’s more story there and now we’re talking about multiple generations. There are a lot of different directions that we could go, but I’m not in favor of exploring any of that unless there’s something awesome that we can sink our teeth into." Miller also took it upon himself to develop a treatment for a sixth season which would involve Michael and Lincoln being kidnapped by Tag, a billionaire "uber-fan" who basically forces the brothers to reenact the first five seasons of Prison Break for his amusement. Needless to say, the producers didn't go for it.
Although its subsequent seasons never quite matched the brilliance of the first, I was a fan of Prison Break throughout its entire original run, and while the revival series had its moments, it didn't quite capture the high-intensity spirit of the show. It also wrapped things up nicely for most of the main characters, so I wouldn't exactly be in a rush to thrust them back into another implausible break-out/in scenario.
What about you folks? Would you be up for more Prison Break?
