A trailer has just been unveiled for Dogman, the latest film from Luc Besson – whose previous credits include The Big Blue, La Femme Nikita, Leon: The Professional, The Fifth Element, The Family, Lucy, and Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. Besson’s most recent film was the 2019 assassin thriller Anna. Dogman is expected to make its world premiere on the festival circuit this fall, and you can watch its trailer in the embed above.
According to Deadline, Dogman is described as being the incredible story of a child, bruised by life, who finds his salvation through the love of his dogs. The Dogman himself is said to be “a fragile yet resilient protagonist who bends societal rules as he makes his own way.”
Caleb Landry Jones of Nitram, Get Out, and American Made plays the lead character – and for most of the trailer, it looks like Dogman is going to be a dark drama that digs into the title guy’s traumatic life. But if you turn to Besson movies for the action, don’t be discouraged. Before the trailer wraps up, we get confirmation that this will feature the sort of thrilling sequences the director is best known for.
Besson wrote the screenplay for Dogman and produced the film through his company Luc Besson Production, in association with EuropaCorp – which is another company he founded. EuropaCorp is majority-owned by the asset management firm Vine Alternative Investment Groups. Kinology is handling the international distribution sales and has already secured distribution for Dogman in multiple territories. Apollo Films will be releasing the film in France on September 27th.
They had originally been planning to release it four months ago, on April 19th, but the reaction from viewers at a market screening in Berlin was so positive that they decided to rework their launch strategy. Leading to the plan for the movie to make the festival rounds, with the trailer just now making its way online.
