Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson taking on Labyrinth sequel

While originally EVIL DEAD remake director Fede Alvarez was attached to direct the LABYRINTH sequel, DOCTOR STRANGE director Scott Derrickson has swooped in to take over the film (while coincidentally original EVIL DEAD director – Sam Raimi – is currently helming the DOCTOR STRANGE sequel).

This project has presumably gained traction after the hugely successful Netflix DARK CRYSTAL prequel series on Netflix, though the LABYRINTH sequel seems to be aiming for a theatrical (rather than streaming) release. Meanwhile, the original 1986 film, starring David Bowie and Jennifer Connolly, is about

16-year-old Sarah's (Jennifer Connelly) quest to reach the center of an enormous otherworldly maze to rescue her infant brother Toby, whom Sarah wished away to Jareth the Goblin King (David Bowie). Most of the film's significant characters, apart from Bowie and Connelly, are played by puppets produced by Jim Henson's Creature Shop.

No release or start date officially announced, but we'll keep you updated!

But what do you guys think? Excited for a LABRYNTH sequel? If so, how should they handle the Goblin King – recast, CG double, cast someone as the son to the deceased king? Either way, sound off below!
