Ever since Loki opened up the Marvel Multiverse fans have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of some familiar faces into the MCU. We got a taste of what was to come in Spider-Man: No Way Home but it looks like that was only the beginning. A new trailer for Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness dropped during the Super Bowl and boy did it deliver. People are going over it with a fine-toothed comb to see what they can find. We did all the work for you so check out all the Doctor Strange trailer Easter eggs we could find.
Warning!!! There May Be Spoilers For Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness Below!
Rintrah
If you spotted a giant bovine creature among the sorcerers during the new trailer then you have just been introduced to Rintrah. He is an alien that resembles what humans would think of as a Minotaur. In the comics, he became an apprentice to Doctor Strange and eventually graduated to become a sorcerer. Will be interesting to see where he is in his training in this film.
Defender Strange
It looks like we’ll be seeing multiple variants of Stephen Strange throughout the film. We already knew from the first trailer that the dark Doctor Strange from the What If . . . ? series on Disney+ would be making an appearance. Here we get a shot of another version called Defender Strange. Back in the 70s, a team called The Defenders was put together as a sort of, non-team. It would include various members like Hulk, Namor, and Doctor Strange. The costume in this film looks just like the one he has worn on the team in the past. Plus he seems to be sporting a ponytail.
Reality Hopping
Some of the fun in this film outside of the cameos is going to be seeing Strange and Company hopping into different realities. One scene showed them falling between realities with a glass break effect like we saw in Spider-Man: No Way Home. As they are falling between realities, you can barely see that they are leaving an animated reality. There was an animated Doctor Strange movie in 2007 and the character has shown up on many animated Marvel projects before. Maybe we’ll see a familiar series turn up as a sweet Doctor Strange 2 Easter egg.
The reality they seem to be falling into is a jungle setting that has dinosaurs roaming around. If you were an X-Men fan back in the day then you might recognize this place as The Savage Land. A jungle-filled place hidden in Antarctica that still had dinosaurs and other crazy creatures like Sauron- a half-man, half Pterodactyl that can suck the life force out of mutants. Will be interesting to see if we get a long stay over in this reality.
The Illuminati
At one point we see Strange being led into a giant room. In the room, we see different thrones set up. Strange is handcuffed and seems to be in trouble for some of his actions. From off-screen, we hear the unmistakable voice of Patrick Stewart say they should tell him the truth. There doesn’t seem to be much point in bringing Stewart in unless he is once again playing Professor X. It looks like this film will finally bring the X-Men into the fold of the MCU. If it’s him, then it’s highly likely we’ll be seeing Marvel’s version of The Illuminati. In the comics, the group consisted of Doctor Strange, Iron Man, Professor X, Reed Richards (Fantastic 4), Black Bolt (Inhumans), and Namor. They decide to come together to try to control the happenings in the Marvel Universe. They at one point decided to send Hulk off-world to protect the Earth after deciding he was too much of a risk. He would end up in a battleworld fighting in an arena on another planet. We saw some of that used in Thor: Ragnarok.
Zombies!
Marvel Zombies was a big selling title for the company when it first hit comic stands. We got to see them in an episode of the Disney+ series What If . . . ? but it looks like we’re going to see some live-action versions of Doctor Strange and the insanely powerful Zombie Wanda. She almost caused the downfall of humankind in the episode of What If . . . ? and returned in the season finale to go head-to-head with an Infinity Stone imbued version of Ultron. It can only be bad news if she steps foot into any other reality. Zombie Strange doesn’t seem much better as we see him using some sort of magic. That never mixes well with zombies.
The Superior Iron Man
During the trailer we see a super-powered figure fighting with Wanda. The figure is all powered up surrounded by an orange light, so it’s hard to make the figure out. At first, it seems like it could be Captain Marvel. After zooming in on the image though it looks like it could be someone with a goatee. With recent leaks and rumors, it is possible we will see the Superior Iron Man. In the comics, this version of Iron Man is the worst parts of Tony Stark making him the worst villain in the Marvel Universe. His suit is a white/silver color, and he is ridiculously powerful. The interesting tidbit about this is that it’s heavily rumored that Tom Cruise is coming onto the movie to play this character. He was originally thought of for the character of Tony Stark before Robert Downey Jr was cast in the role. This may be the coolest Doctor Strange 2 Easter egg of all!
A Return To WandaVision
In an interesting scene, we see Wanda confronting herself. She is dressed in street clothes while the other is in the Scarlet Witch uniform that we have seen in other parts of the trailer. They are both present in Wanda and Vision’s house that we saw in WandaVision just before it was revealed that Wanda had taken over the town of Westview. Is this a trip through time or is it all in Wanda’s mind? Guess we’ll have to wait till May to find out.
Ultron Drones
As Strange is led in handcuffs into the room where the Illuminati could be waiting, he is flanked by robots that could be drone versions of Ultron. They have the familiar look but in reality, could be drones working for the previously mentioned Superior Iron Man. In his reality, he could have perfected his robotic technology and never had to fight Ultron. Now he uses them as his drones to enforce his will. Let’s hope they don’t go full evil Ultron again.
Captain Carter
This one is more of a reference from the new Doctor Strange poster but it looks like we might be seeing more from the What If . . . ? series. In one of the shards of broken glass, you can see the emblem of Captain Carter’s shield. Could we be seeing Captain Carter make her live-action debut? Let’s hope so.
