Most major movies these days, particularly Marvel blockbusters, undergo some form of reshoots. It’s rarely a bad thing, but it’s still our job to report them when they happen. THR has revealed that Doctor Strange 2 will be undergoing “significant” reshoots that will find the cast and crew working six days a week for at least six weeks. That’s not small potatoes.
Some of THR’s sources downplayed the size of the Doctor Strange 2 reshoots, saying that “we’ve had bigger reshoots on other MCU movies,” while others said, “They’re here until the end of the year. That’s like a whole other movie.” Some of the reshoots will consist of principal photography that was held over from the main shoot due to “actor availability issues,” but it seems that COVID also played a factor. Keeping a safe set during a pandemic takes a lot of time, and that certainly slowed down the initial production.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is an ambitious project, so there are plenty of balls in the air that need to land just so in order to make it all work. Finger’s crossed. While speaking about the reshoots on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Benedict Cumberbatch said that he didn’t know what they would consist of. “Like everything with marvel, it comes in fresh, pretty much, most mornings,” Cumberbatch said. “It’s really exciting and the film is shaping up to be something special.” In addition to Benedict Cumberbatch, the Doctor Strange sequel will also star Elizabeth Olsen, Rachel McAdams, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, and Xochitl Gomez.
Marvel recently announced that they were pushing back the releases of a handful of MCU movies, including Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The film was originally slated to hit theaters on March 25, 2022, but will now be released on May 6, 2022.
