Disney has officially launched their “Dream Big Princess” initiative, an effort by which the studio will select 21 girls and women from 13 countries to develop digital short films about women who inspire them. The movement and/or project is being looked at as a way for the studio to place fresh, new talent in the spotlight while giving women of the industry a platform to explore and share aspects of their burgeoning creativity.
The "Dream Big Princess" initiative will also be looking to make a few of those desirable Disney dollars, as each like and share linked to the individual projects via social media will result in a $1 donation from Disney to the United Nations “Girl Up” Foundation. With regard to the documentary presentations, each filmmaker is set to share a story related to real women who're making changes in a variety of fields, such as entertainment, sports, government, science, and philanthropy. As she has quickly become an admired figure of the film industry, Disney's own Jennifer Lee is set to become the subject of one of the upcoming shorts.
“Using the journeys of characters like Anna, Elsa and Moana to inspire kids to dream big is at the very heart of what all of us at Disney do,” Lee said. “The #DreamBigPrincess series is the perfect extension of that vision, providing a powerful platform for the next generation of aspiring filmmakers to create content about the women who have inspired them.”
In the midst of developing their respective projects, those who participate in the "Dream Big Princess" action will be afforded the opportunity to work beside their heroes in a series of professional workshops, including a training session with Apple technical experts, in-depth mentorship from the female-centric production company Summerjax, and meetings with those who've helped to create some of the most influential films in Disney history. It's a dream come true for many female hopefuls looking to make their cinematic mark, and we can't wait to see what manner of creativity their projects yield.
Disney will host the varying films and projects via several social media outlets beginning on October 10th, with donations being made to the "Girl Up" organization through November 20th. If you care to support this project, all you have to do is like or share the content. Happy viewing!
