Joe Wright's (DARKEST NIGHT) upcoming THE WOMAN IN THE WINDOW, a thriller based upon the best-selling novel by A.J. Finn which stars Amy Adams, has found its release date pushed back as Disney has decided to retool the film.
THE WOMAN IN THE WINDOW was first set up at Fox 2000 but fell into Disney's lap after they acquired Fox, and the studio has been busy troubleshooting the projects which it inherited. THE WOMAN IN THE WINDOW had been slated to hit theaters on October 4th, but after early test audiences were left confused by the film due to third-act reveals and chunks set in the mind of Amy Adams' character, they've tasked Joe Wright with shooting five days worth of pickups once Amy Adams completes her work on Ron Howard's HILLBILLY ELEGY. "We’re dealing with a complex novel," says Fox 2000 president Elizabeth Gabler, who will remain as a consultant on the film until its release. "We tested the movie really early for that very reason. We wanted to make it better, and we’ve had Disney’s full support in doing that."
THE WOMAN IN THE WINDOW stars Amy Adams (Sharp Objects) as Dr. Anna Fox, an agoraphobic child psychologist who witnesses a crime while spying on her neighbours. The film also stars Julianne Moore (KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE), Gary Oldman (HUNTER KILLER), Brian Tyree Henry (JOKER), Wyatt Russell (OVERLORD), and Anthony Mackie (AVENGERS: ENDGAME).
A synopsis of "The Woman in the Window" via Amazon:
Anna Fox lives alone—a recluse in her New York City home, unable to venture outside. She spends her day drinking wine (maybe too much), watching old movies, recalling happier times . . . and spying on her neighbors. Then the Russells move into the house across the way: a father, mother, their teenaged son. The perfect family. But when Anna, gazing out her window one night, sees something she shouldn’t, her world begins to crumble and its shocking secrets are laid bare. What is real? What is imagined? Who is in danger? Who is in control? In this diabolically gripping thriller, no one—and nothing—is what it seems.
THE WOMAN IN THE WINDOW will now hit theaters in 2020 and serve as the final release under the Fox 2000 banner.
