Disney+ price increase coming this Friday

Disney+ has seen its fair share of success with shows like The Mandalorian, WandaVision, and The Falcon and The Winter Solider so of course that means the streamer has to raise their prices. The platform has announced that it is instituting a price increase starting on March 26, 2021.

The price increase isn't steep but it does come more than a year after its launch. Starting on March 26, the price of the service will go up by $1.00 from $6.99 per month to $7.99 per month. The streamer's annual subscription will also see an increase to $79.99 per year. Other price increases include the Disney Bundle, which consists of Disney+, Hulu with Ads, and ESPN+. That service will go from $12.99 per month to $13.99 per month or $19.99 a month for Hulu without Ads. If you're paying for Disney+ through a third-party such as Google, Apple, Amazon, or Roku, you will be charged the new price on the first billing date after March 26. Lastly, if you are billed for Disney+ by Verizon, you are encouraged "to contact Verizon for more information."

There are ways to save money despite the price increase. The official Disney+ help website states "New and existing subscribers will receive new pricing on the first billing date on or after March 26, 2021." This information is crucial for those trying to save on Disney+ at the last minute. The monthly rate and the streaming bundle will increase on March 26 no matter what but, for those who want to secure the lower rate for a year, they can purchase an annual subscription at the current rate of $69.99 up until March 26.

Price increases aren't uncommon as streaming services gain popularity. They lock you in with a seemingly low monthly rate and before you know it you're beginning to pay slight increases as time progresses. Netflix has increased prices several times over the years because premium content doesn't come cheap. That being said, even at $7.99 a month, Disney+ will still be cheaper than most other streaming services on the market including HBO Max and Amazon Prime Video.
