Director Josh Boone's Marvel Comics adaptation THE NEW MUTANTS, a horror story set in the world of the X-Men, was supposed to reach theatres in April of 2018, but missed its release date because 20th Century Fox wanted the film to undergo reshoots. Reshoots the studio never got around to scheduling before Fox was acquired by Disney in early 2019. Now Disney is preparing to release THE NEW MUTANTS on April 3, 2020, and it sounds like those reshoots Fox wanted never happened at all.
A few days ago, Boone took to his Instagram account to announce that a new trailer for THE NEW MUTANTS will be released on January 6th. In the comments, a follower asked, "Will this be the OG version of the movie you shot?" Boone replied, "I wouldn't be promoting it here if it wasn't."
So it's been a bumpy road, but it sounds like the movie we'll be getting in April of 2020 will be the same one we would have gotten in April of 2018, if only Fox had just gone ahead and released it.
THE NEW MUTANTS is about
a diverse cadre of teens learning to cope with their superpowers. These new mutants find themselves held in a secret facility against their will and must battle the dangers of their powers, as well as the sins of their past.
Boone wrote the screenplay with Knate Lee.
The film stars Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams, Charlie Heaton, Henry Zaga, Blu Hunt, and Alice Braga.
