My buddy Steve Seigh was absolutely overjoyed by the news that Disney would be developing an animated series based upon Marvel's Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, but as he'd already clocked out for the day, it fell to me to report the news. Rolling up my sleeves, I set about to make Steve proud and put together the most overly enthusiastic Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur article that I possible could, but with just one problem – up until today, I had never even heard of Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. Gulp. Here we go.
Deadline has reported Disney Channels Worldwide is developing the animated series based upon the comic by Amy Reeder, Brandon Montclare, and Natacha Bustos which will "follow the adventures of nine-year-old super-genius Lunella Lafayette, an African-American girl who teams up with her crimson-coloured dinosaur and uses her smarts to save the day." The young hero is described as the smartest character in the Marvel universe (look out, Shuri!) and is in fact an Inhuman who possesses the ability to switch consciousness with Devil Dinosaur. Not a bad talent at all. The series, which will hail from Laurence Fishburne and Helen Sugland, is still in the early stages and hasn't been greenlit just yet, nor has it been decided just which channel the potential series would air on. While speaking with Collider last year, Fishburne teased that he was involved in another Marvel project aside from ANT-MAN AND THE WASP, and that he actually pitched something to Marvel before they offered him the ANT-MAN role.
I’m developing something else for Marvel that I can’t talk about. It’s gonna be really cool. It’s gonna change the world, we hope (laughs). I went to Marvel and pitched them something that really couldn’t work out—there was a lot of legal red tape that just [was] something they couldn’t work out. But then they came back with the offer for Ant-Man and the Wasp and then they said, ‘Hey, what do you think of this?’ and I went ‘Oh yeah that, yes!’ so…
It seems pretty likely that Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur is that secret project, and I'm excited by Fishburne's excitement, and also because Steve threatened me with harsh retaliation if I wasn't. Here's hoping that the series turns out to be something special. We'll keep an eye open for more information on Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, including just when we might see the series debut. Well, as the pig said, that's all folks!
