Time to get the calendar out and start marking some dates down for future reference as Disney today planted their flag in a number of dates over the next few years (in addition to what they added to the Marvel Cinematic Universe) that other movies might want to avoid, unless they want to get crushed by the family entertainment steamroller.
Let's start with THE INCREDIBLES 2, which fans have been clamoring for for a number of years. Pixar has finally cemented a release date for the next animated superhero adventure – June 21, 2019. Wow… feels like forever away, doesn't it? Well, considering we've waited this long for the sequel, what's another four years really? Good things come to those who wait though, right? Something like that is what I hear, but at the very least, this does firmly establish that an INCREDIBLES sequel is happening. It is on the way eventually. It's just going to take a little while to actually get here.
CARS 3 though… You're going to get that a lot sooner, so hopefully that will tide you over in the meantime. Go ahead and put your hands together for another CARS movie no one really asked for.
Anyone?
Anyone?
For informational purpose, let me just state that CARS 3 will be driving into theaters now on June 16, 2017, and we can move on. Okay? Okay.
There is an extra layer of bad news to that CARS 3 announcement though, and that's that TOY STORY 4 has now been pushed back a whole year. TOY STORY 4 was originally slotted for that June 2017 date, but, for one reason or another, it has been daleyed until June 15, 2018. Granted, it's not CARS 3's fault, but… in the event that you were looking for yet another reason to hate on that franchise, here you go.
COCO is another new Pixar film on the way, announced to occupy November 22, 2017, and Disney Animation is going to bring GIGANTIC to theaters on March 9, 2018, so there are a couple other films in the works to keey an eye out for.
Then, of course, there are the matters of the live-action fairy tale movies they have on the horizon and the untitled mystery movies they've dated and… well, let me just show you what type of damage they've done to the release calendar, stretching all the way into 2020.
