To my mind Studio Ghibli (SPIRITED AWAY, HOWL’S MOVING CASTLE) can do no wrong, so you can imagine how delighted I am that Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki are back and collaborating once more with Disney to bring Mary Norton’s book The Borrowers to animated life. In terms of a very basic plot outline, “the Clock family are four-inch-tall people who live anonymously in another family’s residence, borrowing simple items to make their home. Life changes for the Clocks when their daughter, Arrietty, is discovered.” The book has never before received an animated telling, but even if it had, I can promise you that such a film could in no way compare to the magic and wonder that Studio Ghibli seems to have woven yet again.
The film has originally released in Japan in the summer of 2010 (and was the highest grossing film there of that year), but will be coming to a cinema near you iin just a few weeks on February 17th.
But before we get to the clips, here’s the trailer again so that you might refresh your memory:
“That Wasn’t So Hard”
“What Are Borrowers”
“What Do They Call You”
“Young Beans”
