So that’s what the movie world has been missing–The Toxic Avenger!
This according to HOT TUB TIME MACHINE director Steve Pink.
Towards the beginning of the year producer Akiva Goldsman (THE LOSERS, JONAH HEX) acquired the rights to Troma Films THE TOXIC AVENGER. Those rights included: the 1984 original (directed by Lloyd Kaufman), four sequels, an animated TV series and comic books. The plan was to do a reboot of the film.
Well months have gone by and finally they have found a director to take on this project. Steve Pink will co-write with newcomer Daniel C. Mitchell and helm the new TOXIC AVENGER film which was pitched as an “environmentally-conscious action-comedy”. Go green bitches or Toxie will kick your ass!
Pink said this film would be filing a void, “The Toxic Avenger is exactly what the country–wait, that’s not big enough–what the world needs right now.” Is it? I sorta thought we needed less remakes, but that’s just me.
The story of the TOXIC AVENGER went a little something like this: “This is the story of Melvin, the Tromaville Health Club mop boy, who inadvertently and naively trusts the hedonistic, contemptuous and vain health club members, to the point of accidentally ending up in a vat of toxic waste. The devastating results then have a transmogrification effect, his alter ego is released, and the Toxic Avenger is born, to deadly and comical results. The local mop boy is now the local Superhero, the saviour of corruption, thuggish bullies and indifference.”
