When it was announced Roberto Orci will be behind the camera for STAR TREK 3, most of you weren't too happy about the news, but maybe this will make you feel a little better about the next movie.
Orci was recently interviewed for the Humans From Earth podcast, where he revealed the Enterprise and its crew will have already started their five-year mission in STAR TREK 3, and it will be set in deep space.
In [Into Darkness] they set out finally where the original series started. The first two films – especially the 2009 [Star Trek] – was an origin story. It was about them coming together. So they weren’t the characters they were in the original series. They were growing into them and that continues on in the second movie. So in this movie they are closer than they are to the original series characters that you have ever seen. They have set off on their five-year mission. So their adventure is going to be in deep space.
Roberto Orci also joked about who the villains will be in STAR TREK 3.
The Horta is actually the villain in the next one – no – they are in deep space now, so lets see what’s out there.
While I enjoyed both of the new STAR TREK movies, I was disappointed with how a few things were handled in STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS. I'm nervous about Roberto Orci making his directorial debut with STAR TREK 3, but I'm also not completely against it either. At least the Enterprise and its crew will actually be boldly going where no one has gone before in the next film. What strange new worlds and civilizations would you like to see in STAR TREK 3?
STAR TREK 3 should be in theaters sometime in 2016.
