Daniel Espinosa did a solid job directing SAFE HOUSE, injecting a staid script it with energy and life via tools borrowed liberally from the Tony Scott School of Directing. SAFE HOUSE has thus far made approximately $144 million worldwide off an $85 million budget and is still sticking in the Top Ten, so it’s safe to say that Espinosa is currently in a fair amount of demand by studios.
And now it seems that Warner Bros is currently winning out in that battle, with Espinosa in talks to direct THE OUTSIDER, “a gritty action film [wherein] the protagonist is a POW in Osaka in WWII who goes to work for the Yakuza.”
The script is by Andrew Baldwin, who is also currently at work writing the remake of LOGAN’S RUN for Nicolas Winding Refn and Ryan Gosling.
