There are certain moments in life that can flip your perspective in a heartbeat. For director Kevin Smith that was the literal case when he suffered a major heart attack on February 25, 2018. The event caused him to completely change his lifestyle, becoming vegan and dropping a ton of weight. It also changed the trajectory of his filmmaking. Desiring to return to the pillars of the View Askew universe, Smith recently released JAY AND SILENT BOB REBOOT, a film JoBlo's own Paul Shirey found delightfully goofy and hilarious.
Jay and Silent Bob were of course introduced in the 1994 film CLERKS, the movie that helped launch Smith's career. Kevin Smith returned to the world of Randall (Jeff Anderson) and Dante (Brian O'Halloran) twelve years later with CLERKS II, which while not as groundbreaking as the original was still pretty damn funny. Since then Smith has kicked around the idea of a CLERKS III, however the project didn't regain steam until just recently. However, if you were hoping for Dante and Randall to go gallivanting off on some crazy worldwide adventure, think again.
Responding to a fan on Twitter who suggested CLERKS III should take place at an airport (because reasons?), Kevin Smith made the setting of CLERKS III perfectly clear:
So there you have it! CLERKS III will not in fact be set in an aerodrome or Havana, Cuba but at the place it all started – the Quick Stop. This makes perfect sense, especially if the third film will wrap up the trilogy. Although I love CLERKS II, it will be nice to see Dante and Randall return to their roots. After all, the Quick Stop and the best friend duo are inextricably linked together. In some ways they kind of define each other. I sincerely hope Smith goes completely old school and films the entire movie in black and white as well.
So what do you guys think? Are you happy CLERKS III will take place almost exclusively at the Quick Stop? Are you looking forward to the third film? Sound off in the comments below!
