Director Justin Kurzel re-teams with Michael Fassbender on Assassin’s Creed

One of the benefits of having Michael Fassbender set as star and producer on ASSASSIN’S CREED is that he gets input into who will helm the movie. While SAFE HOUSE director Daniel Espinosa was the candidate most recently rumored to join the video game adaptation, we now have confirmation that Fassbender’s MACBETH director Justin Kurzel will helm ASSASSIN’S CREED.

With rewrites handled by screenwriters Adam Cooper and Bill Collage, Deadline reports that the just wrapped MACBETH film will lead the star-director duo directly into ASSASSIN’S CREED. MACBETH has been gaining a lot of buzz with recently revealed images including Fassbender in warrior attire along with co-star Marion Cotillard looking good as his Lady MacBeth.

ASSASSIN’S CREED has been in active development for almost two years now but did not gain momentum until Fassbender joined. The accomplished actor has done everything from Oscar-worthy drama to pulpier genre fare. Seeing him take on the lead in this should prevent him from getting typecast as Magneto or even David from PROMETHEUS. Kurzel is by no means a household name but he should bring something unique to this adaptation.

ASSASSIN’S CREED is due for release on August 7, 2015.
