Steven Kostanski's LEPRECHAUN RETURNS was released by Lionsgate TODAY and is being touted as a direct sequel to the first film. As you might imagine, with the film hitting digital today, director Kostanski has been out and about making the promotional run throughout the past few days, and I guess it was only a matter of time before someone asked him about the chances of us ever seeing a sequel to his hit directing debut, THE VOID.
Steven Kostanski on THE VOID 2:
Well, [co-director Jeremy Gillespie] and I have all sorts of ideas on what we could do with The Void, but it's totally tethered to the producers and what they want to do. So, I feel like, at this time, the movie's going to just enjoy its life as a one-off thing. I mean, anything is possible in the future, but I think, for now, we're just going to leave it at that, as the one film.
Bummer. While it's kinda sad to hear that even though the team behind the original film has tons of ideas for a solid sequel, it seems the original movie's producers are gunking up the works. But at the end of the day, maybe that's for the best as THE VOID stands just fine as a standalone movie and a sequel just might muddy the waters. What do you think? Let us know below!
THE VOID synopsis:
In the middle of a routine patrol, officer Daniel Carter happens upon a blood-soaked figure limping down a deserted stretch of road. He rushes the young man to a nearby rural hospital staffed by a skeleton crew, only to discover that patients and personnel are transforming into something inhuman. As the horror intensifies, Carter leads the other survivors on a hellish voyage into the subterranean depths of the hospital in a desperate bid to end the nightmare before it's too late.
THE VOID is written and directed by Jeremy Gillespie and Steven Kostanski, and starring Aaron Poole, Ellen Wong, Kathleen Munroe, Stephanie Belding, and Kenneth Welsh. The film is available on VOD RIGHT NOW and you can read Eric's review of the flick HERE.
