Director Ruben Fleischer talks Venom 2

ZOMBIELAND director Ruben Fleischer's upcoming Marvel Comics adaptation VENOM starring Tom Hardy as Eddie Brok aka Venom is all set to hit screens this October. So I guess in this day-and-age of endless comic spin-offs and sequels, it only makes sense that Fleischer is already talking up the film's (possible) sequel.

Yes, the director recently spoke about whether or not there are plans to continue this new iteration of the character – and go figure he basically says that if this version makes tons of cash, we'll see another.

Director Ruben Fleischer on VENOM 2:

We've definitely laid some groundwork for different directions that the franchise could go but obviously, it all hinges on people's excitement about this film. I hope people will stay and see what seeds have been planted.

He continues:

I think we can all agree it would be pretty amazing to see Spider-Man and Venom face off in a film. I have to think that the studio is thinking the same way and at some point, down the road, they're gonna run across each other's paths.

Personally, I know it sounds kind of weird to say, but I'd be up for another VENOM if it was greenlit today. One, I think that – even if the first film isn't successful, Hardy will make a great Brock so give him another chance. And two, I think that a sequel featuring VENOM VS CARNAGE would basically be the coolest thing ever. What do you think? Let us know below!

Scripted by Scott Rosenberg, Jeff Pinkner, and Kelly Marcel, VENOM still doesn't have an official synopsis, but Fleischer has said that it drew inspiration from two different comic book storylines. One of those storylines is Lethal Protector, in which Venom fights "five new offspring of the Venom Symbiote: Scream, Phage, Riot, Lasher, and Agony." The other is Planet of the Symbiotes, in which "Earth is invaded by an army of symbiotes."

Hardy plays Eddie Brock, the journalist who gets coated in the Venom symbiote. His co-stars include Michelle Williams as Eddie's wife Annie Weying, Riz Ahmed as the symbiote-studying Dr. Carlton Drake, Jenny Slate as a scientist, Woody Harrelson as "a henchman of sorts", and Reid Scott as a mystery character.

VENOM is set to be released on October 5th.
