Brad Bird is currently working on the script for THE INCREDIBLES 2, but what many fans of the first movie want to know is will he also be back to helm the sequel. During an interview with Collider, the director was asked if THE INCREDIBLES 2 will be his next project, and Bird seemed to confirm he will be directing the animated movie, saying, “Yeah it feels like it to me, yeah.” Bird also gave an update on the script.
Oh yeah I have pages, a bunch of pages. I had a lot of ideas for the original Incredibles that I didn’t get a chance to use, that I like. I have ideas that I wanted to pursue a little bit and there wasn’t enough time in Incredibles. There are new ideas I have, and I think there are enough of those together to make an interesting movie. I’m just focusing on getting Tomorrowland out into the world and playing with the Incredibles sandbox again.
Brad Bird was one of the filmmakers approached for STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, and with director Josh Trank no longer attached to the second STAR WARS ANTHOLOGY film (which will likely be about Boba Fett), Collider wanted to know if Bird is interested in taking over the project.
Well Kathy and I have discussed the possibility of—I mean she’s basically saying this is a very large sandbox and other people can play in it. I was particularly attracted to the idea of picking up and—J.J. got very excited about the notion of shaping the next trilogy, and that idea was interesting to me too. But I kind of—I’m writing a sequel to The Incredibles and I can’t think too much farther beyond that. I have other things I want to do as well.
Although it's unlikely Bird will be behind the camera for the film, it does sound like it's possible he could direct a future Star Wars flick. He's obviously going to be a little busy for a while with THE INCREDIBLES 2, but I'd love to see what he would do with a Star Wars movie.
Brad Bird's TOMORROWLAND starring George Clooney, Hugh Laurie, and Britt Robertson will be in theaters on May 22, 2015.
