We are now just three weeks away from the release of THE PREDATOR, director Shane Black's "inventive sequel" to the 1987 classic PREDATOR – which Black had an acting role in, his character being one of the original Predator's victims. To prepare their patrons for what Black has in store for them with the new film, AMC Theatres have released a short featurette that gives a look behind the scenes.
In this featurette, Black and cast members Boyd Holbrook, Trevante Rhodes, and Sterling K. Brown discuss the film, which Black promises is the scariest movie in the franchise. Rhodes thinks viewers will find the upgraded creature featured in the movie to be especially scary.
Black wrote the screenplay with Fred Dekker, thirty years after the pair wrote THE MONSTER SQUAD together (and Dekker directed that movie). Black says they were trying to "encompass in one movie all the genre things we love".
THE PREDATOR has the following synopsis:
From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home in Shane Black’s explosive reinvention of the Predator series. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.
Holbrook, Rhodes, and Brown are joined in the cast by Yvonne Strahovski, Jacob Tremblay, Thomas Jane, Keegan-Michael Key, Alfie Allen, Augusto Aguilera, Olivia Munn, and Jake Busey. Busey is playing the son of the character his father Gary played in PREDATOR 2.
THE PREDATOR arrives in theatres on September 14th. I'm going to be seeing it for sure.
