Director Albert Hughes has found a villain for Motor City, and it’s Gary Oldman

Albert Hughes, one half of the directing team known as The Hughes Brothers (THE BOOK OF ELI, FROM HELL), has been been trying to rev up his revenge-thriller MOTOR CITY for some time now.

After working on the live-action AKIRA adaptation for a spell, he has since left that project and scored Dominic Cooper (THE DEVIL’S DOUBLE) and Amber Heard (DRIVE ANGRY) to star in MOTOR CITY.  And things are only getting better, as one Mr. Gary Oldman has elected to work once more with Hughes and play the villain in the movie.  Their last collaboration as director/villain was THE BOOK OF ELI, a movie that was both a fun spin on the “Blind Samurai” sub-genre and a solid action/adventure movie that was content to explore its themes in a safe, surface way. Definitely appreciated that one more the second time around though.

MOTOR CITY meanwhile deals with the story of “a small-time hood who is framed and sent to prison only to exact revenge years later to get back the woman he loves.” Oldman’s role will have him “act as a kingpin-type who has his hooks into the woman,” and something in me says that he’s not going to just let her go when Cooper comes asking.  The movie is due to start shooting in April in Berlin, so hopefully we’ll hear some more soon about it soon.
