Witches have been stirring up the horror genre quite a bit lately as they have brought their supernatural powers to Rob Zombie's THE LORDS OF SALEM, FX's "American Horror Story: Coven" and WGNA's forthcoming "Salem", proving that they have become more popular than ever as of late. Now, it appears that Dimension Films is looking to cash in on the recent popularity of witches as THR reports that they have picked up THE WITCHES BALLROOM, a pitch by Ray Wright, with Shawn Levy and Dan Levine of 21 Laps to produce.
Unfortunately, we don't know a whole hell of a lot other than the title of the film. Bummer, I know! There's more than enough room in the genre for a terrifying tale of witches, and it should be a breath of fresh air for horror fans because it will shine a light on a monster other than vampires and zombies for once. “It’s exciting when an original idea takes off, particularly psychological horror which is such a visceral thrill to write,” Wright said in the release announcing the deal. “Dimension is the perfect home for it.” I'm excited to see what Wright—who is the screenwriter behind THE CRAZIES, CASE 39 and PULSE—has come up with. We'll clue you folks in on a whole lot more once we get it!
