Dimension Films has started to gather a bit of a reputation for making flicks and then just not releasing them to the public. While this is nothing new in the horror genre (especially for Dimension; ALL THE BOYS LOVE MANDY LANE, anyone?) it has become a bit crazy lately with AMITYVILLE: THE AWAKENING and CHILDREN OF THE CORN: RUNAWAY being two flicks that seem to be lost on a dusty shelf somewhere in a Weinstein's attic.
That said, Dimension have kicked off production on the new horror thriller POLAROID, based on the award-winning short by director Lars Klevberg, and we can only hope that this new flick will not join the ranks of the "Dimenson Dead" – which totally should become a thing. Possibly a movie ala GOOSEBUMPS, where all the movies the Weinsteins won't release gather forces and attack the Weinsteins.
Here is the rundown of SAY CHEESE AND DIE — oops, I mean POLAROID via press release:
From the producers of the THE RING and THE GRUDGE, comes the next iconic horror franchise: POLAROID. High school loner Bird Fitcher has no idea what dark secrets are tied to the Polaroid vintage camera she stumbles upon, but it doesn’t take long to discover that those who have their picture taken meet a tragic end. Based on the short by Lars Klevberg, the story mixes elements of THE RING and FINAL DESTINATION to create one of the most unique and scary films.
The short's synopsis:
Sarah and Linda discover an old Polaroid camera in the clearing of Sarah's house. In their own selfishness they exploit the camera, only to discover what horrible past it hides.
POLAROID stars Kathryn Prescott, Mitch Pileggi, Grace Zabriskie, Tyler Young, Keenan Tracey, Samantha Logan, Priscilla Quintana, Madelaine Petsch and Javier Botet (who posted the pic below on his Instagram last week).
Filming is now underway in Halifax, Nova Scotia, with the film set to be released August 25, 2017.
