Dimension explains why they’re pumping out an Hellraiser sequel and not a remake

I’m hearing a lot of mumbling and grumbling over this new HELLRAISER direct-to-DVD sequel. Most of those grumblings have been focusing on explaining something. Just last week you had Doug Bradley explaining why he wouldn’t return because the sequel just didn’t rub right with his mojo. Personally I figured why cast a new Pinhead when Dimension is going to re-cast another actor for the remake?

WHENEVER that remake is going to happen it seems now.

The Hollywood Reporter has just sent word out that Dimension is trying to explain the reasons for deciding on a sequel instead of a remake. Here’s what THR had to say: According to insiders, Dimension is being choosy when it comes to development of the theatrical version, many times chasing the hot genre writer or director of the moment then moving on when it doesn’t mesh with the company’s vision or when the initial excitement wears off.

“It’s a ‘they know it when they see it’ kind of thing,” one executive said. “It’s a small needle to hit, no pun intended.”

Dimension risked losing “Hellraiser” rights by year’s end if it didn’t greenlight some sort of screen feature, which is why the direct-to-DVD version, “Hellraiser: Revelations,” became a high priority.

In other words when it comes it comes . So does this bode well for the sequel? The above statement sounds like they pushed for a sequel on the basis of survival not merit. Things are slowly rolling along but is it what the fans want? Does this push your panic button? Or is there no cause for alarm? You tell us.

One good reason to catch another helping of PIRANHA 3D.
