Diego Boneta has almost 30 acting credits to his name, but I'll always know him as Drew Boley from the '80s set musical ROCK OF AGES from 2012 – a film which gets a bad rap, but which I really enjoy and watch frequently with friends. Since ROCK OF AGES, Boneta has worked on a handful of genre projects, including a film I wasn't so fond of (SUMMER CAMP) and a television show I haven't watched (Scream Queens). Now he's adding a pretty major project to his filmography: the upcoming TERMINATOR sequel that's being produced by James Cameron, with DEADPOOL's Tim Miller attached to direct.
Boneta's TERMINATOR character is said to be a human who plays "a key role" in the story.
His co-stars in the film will include returning leads Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton, along with fellow newcomer Mackenzie Davis as "a soldier-assassin from the future".
Boneta's casting might lend some credibility to the rumor that the sequel will be set in Mexico, as the actor/musician is originally from Mexico.
Screenwriter Billy Ray is currently working on the script for this new TERMINATOR sequel, which will be ignoring every installment in the franchise that Cameron wasn't involved with. Only the events of THE TERMINATOR and TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY are canon for this one.
The film is scheduled to be released on November 22, 2019.
