Die Hard 6: Die Hardest is on the way and this time they’re turning Japanese!

Well, after that festering turd that was A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD made more than enough to merit another entry in the DIE HARD franchise, it appears that producers are going to stay on course with mediocrity. Apparently, screenwriter Ben Trebilcook has been hired to put together a treatment for DIE HARD 6 or DIE HARDEST, which is once again jumping into the location aspect by setting it in Tokyo (I'm honestly surprised it's not China, given Hollywood's latest monetary love affair with them).

“It is extremely faithful to the franchise and characters and is a natural progression. It's also a very plausible storyline,” says Ben Trebilcook, the screenwriter hired for the gig. Trebilcook has been hired numerous times for various franchises, although none of his work was actually used, according to IMDB, which states in their trivia:

Worked on earlier incarnations of "Die Hard 4" and "Mission : Impossible 3". In his script for "Die Hardest", John McClane and daughter Lucy battled terrorists together; in "MI:3:, Ethan Hunt and his team – including returning star, Emilio Estevez – go up against organ harvesters

The only details available are that the story will start in New York and move to Tokyo, where it will play out predominantly. Could Trebilcook be using the Lucy McClane angle as stated in the above description? Who knows? Or cares, at this point? Trebilcook says there are still issues to get through, though:

"Getting Larry's support was great, but there are many hurdles to leap yet and two of those are called Bruce Willis and [producer] Alex Young. [There's] the possibility producers might go back and find some other source material to base the next one on, like they did with the first and second. Mine though, I feel it could be the Rocky Balboa of the Die Hard franchise."

Yeah, look, I know that many of you enjoyed the latest outing and that's just fine. For many others it was a tiresome bore and I think those that really valued the first few films have lost all hope of seeing the old John McClane back in action, instead settling for a new setting and Bruce Willis playing Bruce Willis with a director hired just to hit the paces. Ah, well.

More as this develops…unfortunately.
