With both IRON MAN 3 and MAN OF STEEL almost nine months away, we are left to feed on the slimmest scraps of rumor and conjecture. But, every now and then we get a bone thrown our way that may actually be significant.
LEGO has become the go to toy for DC and Marvel in recent years. The various sets for THE AVENGERS litter my household. I stepped on Loki’s f**king helmet last night and my heel is still killing me. So, it should be no surprise that the two big superhero movies of 2013 would be getting various sets.
ScreenCrush posted a list of the upcoming Lego sets for Marvel and DC (courtesy of Brick Set) and they include titles that may be significant for both films.
Here’s the list:
76000 Arctic Batman vs. Mr.Freeze – Aquaman on Ice
76001 Batman vs. Bane – Chase with Tumbler
76002 Superman Metropolis Showdown
76003 Superman Battle of Smallville
76004 Spider-Man – Hunting with Spider-Cycle
76005 Spider-Man – Mission at Daily Bugle
76006 Iron Man Extremis
76007 Iron Man Malibu Mansion
76008 Iron Man vs Mandarin
76009 Superman Black Zero Escape
None of those IRON MAN 3 titles venture outside of what we learned about the movie from Comic Con, but seeing Extremis used formally in something related to the movie makes me wonder if Tony Stark will be completing his transformation to cyborg as he did in the comic series. Plus, I cannot wait to get my hands on a Mandarin toy!
MAN OF STEEL is going to have some major battle sequences in both Metropolis and Smallville, but who the heck is Black Zero? The official tie-in LEGO sets do not typically venture away from events that actually occur in the film (those sets come later). If my research is to be trusted, Black Zero was a villain who revealed to Superman that he was a space saboteur who destroyed planets. He had been hired to destroy Krypton, and discovered that the internal stresses which would have destroyed it in any case were dying down, necessitating his involvement to ensure it exploded.
So, does that mean that Black Zero will be the third villain in MAN OF STEEL? Or possibly the setup villain for the sequel, kind of like Thanos in THE AVENGERS?
Either way, i am very excited to get a look at these sets. LEGO does a phenomenal job of shrinking down the actual movie into toy form (sometimes better than the 10 and 12 inch action figures).
What do you think of these IRON MAN 3 and MAN OF STEEL hints?
