DiCaprio calls Killers of the Flower Moon “a masterpiece”

As if we weren’t looking forward to Martin Scorsese’s next film, Killers of the Flower Moon, enough, apparently Leonardo DiCaprio has deemed it a “masterpiece.”

Speaking at an event at Qatar’s Doha Film Institute, Killers of the Flower Moon costume designer Jacqueline West recalled a recent conversation with DiCaprio, saying, “I was talking to Leo about it. We had lunch… He said, ‘Jackie, I think we worked on a masterpiece’. I thought for Leo to say that, was something. He doesn’t say that lightly. He has been in the business since he was a little boy.” West herself is excited for the project, saying, “I can’t talk about that film yet because nothing has been released but I just have to say it’s the combination of someone I always wanted to work with and my absolute dream project. It’s called Killers of the Flower Moon and it was brilliantly done not just on my part but by everybody.”

Killers of the Flower Moon is the sixth collaboration between Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese. Their working relationship began with 2002’s Gangs of New York, with DiCaprio appearing in four of the director’s next seven films. It will also mark the 10th teaming of Scorsese and Robert De Niro, which took a significant hiatus between 1995’s Casino and 2019’s The Irishman. (DiCaprio and De Niro did both appear in a 2015 short film directed by Scorsese called The Audition.) Other cast members include Jesse Plemons, Brendan Fraser, John Lithgow, Lily Gladstone, and more. The film has a reported $200 million budget, putting it somewhere in the neighborhood of The Irishman’s, which sits somewhere between $159-$250 million.

Killers of the Flower Moon was originally intended to be released in 2022 but is now on pace to come out this year, possibly debuting at one of the major film festivals such as Cannes or Venice, followed by its release from Paramount and on Apple TV+.

The official plot: “In 1920s Oklahoma, the Osage Nation were the richest people per capita in the world after oil was discovered under their land. And then they were murdered, one by one. As the death toll rose, the newly created FBI took up the case and unraveled a chilling conspiracy and one of the most monstrous crimes in American history.”
