Fresh off Don’t Look Up’s first trailer comes a new, exclusive clip from Netflix’s Tudum event. The clip shows Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence’s scientist characters warning the White House about impending doom. The hilarious clip showed Meryl Streep’s president unwilling to accept the news, while her son, the chief-of-staff (Jonah Hill) could barely stay awake. It looks pretty funny in a very Adam McKay in satire-mode way.
Original post: The first trailer for Adam McKay’s Don’t Look Up has been released and the first look has Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence warning the world about the impending doom ahead.
Per the film’s official synopsis from Netflix,
“Kate Dibiasky (Jennifer Lawrence), an astronomy grad student, and her professor Dr. Randall Mindy (Leonardo DiCaprio) make an astounding discovery of a comet orbiting within the solar system. The problem — it’s on a direct collision course with Earth. The other problem? No one really seems to care. Turns out warning mankind about a planet-killer the size of Mount Everest is an inconvenient fact to navigate. With the help of Dr. Oglethorpe (Rob Morgan), Kate and Randall embark on a media tour that takes them from the office of an indifferent President Orlean (Meryl Streep) and her sycophantic son and Chief of Staff, Jason (Jonah Hill), to the airwaves of The Daily Rip, an upbeat morning show hosted by Brie (Cate Blanchett) and Jack (Tyler Perry). With only six months until the comet makes impact, managing the 24-hour news cycle and gaining the attention of the social media-obsessed public before it’s too late proves shockingly comical — what will it take to get the world to just look up?!”
The film stars Michael Chiklis, Ariana Grande, Timothee Chalamet, Ron Perlman, Scott Mescudi, Tomer Sisley, Himesh Patel, Melanie Lynskey, and Mark Rylance.
Bringing Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence together reportedly cost Netflix $55 million so one can only imagine how much this budget skyrocketed once the rest of the ensemble cast came together. Filming took place, beginning in November of 2020, in various locations in Boston, Massachusetts, with the city standing in for New York, where most of the film takes place. Principal photography wrapped on February 18, 2021.
Did YOU like the teaser? Don’t Look Up is scheduled to receive a limited theatrical release on December 10, 2021, prior to streaming on Netflix on December 24, 2021.
